Enhanced Access to System Integration Technologies

Objective

The project will provide enhanced access to advanced subsystems integration technologies. Potential users will be served by a network of regionally distributed technically knowledgeable Service Centres which can guide them through every step from first awareness of technology capability through prototyping to volume production. Three complementary supply networks of manufacturers will be maintained: for component supply; prototyping; and volume production. Users will be reached by Europe wide awareness and dissemination activities including exhibitions, seminars, workshops and newly developed training courses. Users will then be encouraged forward by support from Service Centres, which will be increasingly self-funded and provide advice on choosing technology, vendor and design route.

Objectives:
Provide access to a network or manufacturers for prototypes, low and high volume production of advanced subsystem integration technology and components. Speed up design access by delivering design kits on multiple technologies from several manufacturers, which work to a common format. Maintain a wide technology base but driven by the strategic needs of European industry. Strengthen existing support organisation networks by providing information and training on advanced technology so that users can find local/regional expertise. Speed up the learning curve for take up of technology by developing training courses for advanced technology.

Work description:
EASIT will build on the infrastructure created during the EUROPRACTICE MCM PROJECT. The supply network will be strengthened by the commercial company Inpact taking over the high volume production network and the other EASIT partners building a network, which focuses on prototyping and low volume supply for a broader range of technologies. Inpact will assist EASIT to qualify the new technologies and vendors and then take up the offers into its own portfolio on a self-financing basis. Availability of components for HDP will be improved by the activities of EASIT building a component supply network to encompass bar die, chip scale packages, sensors and Microsystems components. A service will be provided to help locate sources of supply. EASIT will work with manufacturers in its networks to create design kits, which incorporate technology design rules in a common format. These design kits will be distributed on CD-ROM. Service Centres provide advice and support to users. The existing network set up in EUROPRACTICE MCM will be supplemented by working with other technology support organisations such as TNT's. These will be selected, training will be provided and joint workshops and other activities carried out. Training courses for users on HDP technology at basic level (including economic factors) and advanced level will be produced and delivered across Europe.
