Objective The goal of the project is to develop an environmentally safe new production technology, based on UV photo grafting for manufacturing membranes and functional materials. The present surface modification techniques have several drawbacks that we expect to solve by integrating UV irradiation technology in existing manufacturing lines. We intend to develop several industrial UV flexible continuous pilots and to validate the technology by the elaboration of a given number of flat sheet and hollow-fiber membranes and other fictionalized products exhibiting specific properties. Applications concern mainly water and wastewater treatment, food industry, biotechnology and pharmacy. The research will be mainly conducted by RID subcontractors chosen for having experience in membrane elaboration and chemical engineering. The SMEs partners will be active in complementary market segments andone, not yet found, will have a capability in the domain of UV equipment and of integration of components.
