Innate immune defence against bacteria in drosophila.

Cel

The applicant will be provided with a highly qualified training in Drosophila genetics (including generation of transgenic fly lines, male recombination, data mining of Drosophila genome sequences) as well as in the field of innate immunity. During her activity in the host laboratory, the applicant will address fundamental concepts of innate immunobiology and host resistance to microorganisms, thus acquiring cutting edge experience in two topics: genetics and immunology . This training will provide the applicant with genetic tools to study infectious diseases, which is one of her main scientific interests. This experience will have a strong impact on the applicant's career, as it will lead to publication in high profile scientific journals, establishment of international collaborations, attendance of international meetings. The host research unit will benefit from hosting the applicant, as she will carry out a project that is of priority for the laboratory: the characterisation of the IMD gene. This project is mandatory for extending the current knowledge on antibacterial peptides and host-defences.
