Objective The EUROPRACTICE IC project serves the needs of 700 customers (academics, research laboratories and companies) through a broker function with CAD vendors, foundries, library vendors, assembly and test houses. EUROPRACTICE negotiates low cost conditions to distribute CAD licenses for IC, subsystem and microsystem design to European universities and research laboratories for educational and non-commercial projects. EUROPRACTICE negotiates the best conditions with selected foundries to offer low cost prototyping through the organisation of MPW runs. Foundry supplied design kits for the EUROPRACTICE IC technologies are checked, modified to work with the supported versions of the tools then consolidated onto CD-ROMs for secure low-cost distribution. EUROPRACTICE offers a total solution to European SMEs, operating in local small markets or niche markets, for small volume delivery including IC design, prototyping and delivery of IC components. To offer IC design for the end-customer a network of Alliance Partners, fabless commercial design houses, is set up. To deliver IC components in small volumes, a solution is worked out with the selected foundries that complements their high volume offer. EUROPRACTICE acts as a one-stop shop for the end-customer and subcontracts wafer fabrication, packaging and testing and delivers the IC components to the end-customer. EUROPRACTIVE plans to establish strong links with partners of future 5th framework RTD, Best Practice and First User projects in order to promote the use of the EUROPRACTICE service and to get advise and early access to new CAD tools and IC technologies through the partners of the RTD projects. A strong marketing and promotion action is planned.
