Galileo User Support Transport

Objectif

GUST project will provide the EC with support in the field of satellites navigation terminals during GALILEO development. Three objectives are considered of first importance by the consortium. Firstly, to support the standardisation process of GALILEO receiver by drafting a preliminary technical specification of GALILEO receiver, with an emphasis on receivers related to safety critical applications. Secondly, to give technical and operational guidelines in order to ensure certificability of GALILEO receivers. Thirdly, to provide the EC with support and expertise during its discussions with USA and Russia related to signal and receiver design. Main outputs will consist in a preliminary specification of receivers and guidelines to ensure certificability.

Objectives:
EC is initiating the development of GALILEO, it is therefore vital that EU prepares actively in order to significantly increase its existing market shares and strengthens its positions and to ensure that when developing GALILEO the EU receiver manufacturers, integrators and service providers could compete on the global market. The objective of this project is to support the EC in the field of GALILEO terminals during GALILEO development. There are three main issues that are to be considered. Firstly, early pre-standardisation to support the standardisation process of GALILEO receiver by drafting a preliminary technical specification of receiver, notably for safety critical applications. Secondly, receiver certification to give technical and operational guidelines in order to ensure certificability of GALILEO receivers. Thirdly, compatibility with GPS and GLONASS signals: to provide the EC with support and expertise during its discussions with USA and Russia related to signal.

Work description:
Given the objectives, the consortium has divided the technological work to be performed into three parts: early pre-standardisation, receiver certification and compatibility with GPS and GLONASS signal. These activities run in parallel for the whole duration of the project. Concerning the technological work, the project will include not only resources from the two partners but also financial provision to fund external work to be undertaken by other European industrialist (participation to workshops, drafting of working papers, etc.). The project will draw up as a draft the preliminary generic specification of future GALILEO receiver with an emphasis on receiver used in high safety level demanding applications: transport and rescue localisation.

Milestones:
Main outputs of the project will consists of the Preliminary specification of GALILEO receiver, the recommendations for GALILEO receiver standardisation, the certification survey and the recommendations for future receiver certification. Concerning receiver pre-standardisation, two workshops are foreseen in September 2000 and April 2001. Three workshops on receiver certification are also planned in September 2000, December 2000 and April 2001.
