Objectif The physical requirements for a plastic needle have been defined, and tooling has been designed to ensure careful control of the physical properties of the polymer during moulding. Several options to achieve the needle bore have been evaluated, and two routes have been successfully demonstrated. Methods and designs for the formation of the needle cutting tip have also been developed and demonstrated. The application of laser drilling for the formation of small holes has been investigated along with associated handling and accurate registration of components.
