Variable temperature micro-impact testing

Objetivo

The proposed co-operative project will develop an innovative variable temperature micro-impact testing technique. It will be fully quantified by theoretical modeling of the experimental data. Coating manufacturers across a wide range of industries currently have no effective quantified method for evaluating the performance of their coatings at their operating temperature. The technology developed in this project will provide a quantitative technique for evaluation and optimization of coating performance for improved wear-resistance and coating-substrate adhesion over the temperature range -90 to +1100 degrees Celsius. It will lead to the more rapid development of new coating technologies, more environmentally friendly and more durable coatings, all of which will make European coatings manufacturers significantly more competitive in the global market.
