Regional co-operation in the balkans and european integration

Cel

The project involves a 7-month study on regionalism in the Balkans. It is assumed that despite the high level of fragmentation and disintegration in the region, there is also a trend towards regional co-operation, currently under progress. However, for various reasons the progress of regional co-operation has been meagre and slow. The study will attempt to assess the nature of Balkan co-operation; focusing on the current debate on regionalism in South-eastern Europe within the wider European and international context and explore the history of 20th century Balkan regionalism. It will examine local attitudes towards regionalism. It will also assess the links between Balkan regionalism and European integration. This analysis will add to our understanding of a region in need of further co-operation and integration with Europe and to present ideas and policy proposals on the prospects of regional co-operation in the Balkans.
