The challenge of mainstreaming for trade unions in europe : how can trade unions foster gender equality in the work place and in daily life

Cel

In a context of major transformations of economic and social structures, the massive participation of women in the employment market has been one of the major challenges of the last few decades. In varying degrees in all European countries, this participation has been accompanied by a reinforcement of disparity between men and women, and also between different social categories (including women). However, on a European level, the trade union movement has been very slow to take all of these phenomena into consideration, if it has done so at all. The aim of this research, in France and other European countries (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Italy and the Netherlands), is to develop an analysis of the concept of "mainstreaming" (the integration of equality in all actions and policies and by all the players involved) applied in the Trade Union field.
