Virtual Home Environment for Service Personalization and Roaming Users

Obiettivo

So far no specific approach to VHE realization has been envisaged. VESPER aims to define, demonstrate and promote a service architecture for provision of VHE across a multi-provider, heterogeneous network and system infrastructure. The project's technical approach, although in line with a long-term vision of IN, is expected to benefit from the adoption of concepts, models and service paradigms from the TINA framework, the use of intelligent agent capabilities and other innovative technologies to support roaming users with service portability, session mobility and service scalability. Key expected results of VESPER include a validated VHE architecture specification with a tested prototype, a set of directives for exploitation of its results, identification of methods for cooperating with current systems and participation and contribution to relevant fora.

OBJECTIVES
VESPER key objectives are to:
a) define a VHE architecture based on state-of-the-art technologies, supporting service portability and continuity;
b) develop a service prototypes full filling the requirements of the proposed VHE architecture;
c) assess and validate in trials the VHE architecture against the identified requirements;
d) identify how current systems may be enhanced and/or inter-work with other advanced systems in order to meet the VHE requirements. Criteria will be set to produce exploitation plans for the project results;
e) pursue the acceptance of project results in a context of industrial players, in the international standardization arena and in the scientific community.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
A clear workplan has been elaborated enabling VESPER to efficiently fulfill its objectives.

This will be achieved by:
a) Developing a VHE architecture, stemming from analysis of VHE requirements as defined by ETSI and existing VHE prototype implementations, with influence from relevant architectural frameworks. Emphasis will be given on the determination of profile paradigms for a user, service, terminal and network. A roaming model will be prescribed, comprising all roles involved in VHE scenario. Service continuity is an important concept to be reflected by this architecture;
b) Assessing and selecting applicable technologies and proceeding towards the implementation of the architectural components;
c) Defining and implementing application services which allow the user to exploit the VHE facilities supported by the architecture. The service definition, in particular, will take into account the need to provide users with application services scalable along three dimensions: performance, features and format;
d) Demonstrating the feasibility of the architecture in two phases. In an initial phase the VHE architecture will be shown in an IP environment, whereas in a final phase a prototype depicting the maturity of the architecture will be executed in a multi-technological infrastructure;
e) Assessing and validating the VHE architecture based on trial results; moreover migration paths from the traditional service environment towards the VHE architecture will be outlined;
f) Exploitation plans will be defined for the VESPER results;
g) The project results visibility will be promoted with the programme framework and in relevant fora and standardization bodies.The VESPER work will be monitored for its performance and goal fulfillment.
