Objetivo The project will provide a means of resolving a major and difficult environment issue: both the improvement of a fatal refinery residue and CO2 abatement. Using CHP technology for high energy recovery, it simultaneously turns the sulphur contained in the fuel oil into the form of gypsum and prevents the production of about 280 000t/year of CO2; the project will abate about 10,000 t/year of SO2 (previously spread in the Rhône-Alpes region), while producing electric and thermal energy under conditions that are the most environmentally friendly and less polluting than a conventional thermal power plant. The production of desulphurisation gypsum, usable in the industry, will contribute to saving on natural gypsum resources. The project will be a technological showcase for a complete and profitable solution.
