Voice Adapted Multipurpose Peripherals

Cel

The VAMP project particularly configures as a transnational Take-up Best Practice action in the area of advanced microelectronics technologies. Three main Expertise Centres ("ExCs"), with long time established experience in technology transfer activities, advice and support to enterprises (GEMAC, COREP, ARCHIMEDIA) will offer their assistance to co-ordinate and to monitor the execution of Best Practice Projects of an international group of 10 user companies, which have the goal to introduce voice adapted interfaces into their products to improve functionality and competitiveness and to install management and design know-how for future developments. The best practice experiences, design and management methodologies as well as the project results will be disseminated in form of brochures, a project website and exhibitions, but also in form of direct training activities with other companies being potential users for this kind of technology.

Objectives:
The VAMP project intends to:
1. support small and medium-sized enterprises in the introduction of different microelectronics technologies used for voice recognition, processing and output to improve their products and to increase the commercial value of their products
2. assist the companies in management and technical issues via an international network of Expertise Centres which are also responsible for project monitoring and familiar with the problems of their partner companies
3. extract best practice experiences of the companies in design and management methodologies, but also the technical results and to produce high-quality dissemination material
4. encourage the wider use of microelectronics in general and especially voice peripherals to strengthen the position of the European industry by international dissemination activities organised by the ExCs
5. perform (based on the projects) individual training activities with other companies to support directly the re-use of the results and to lower the introduction barriers

Work description:
The project is divided into the following phases reflecting the contents of work:
- Phase 1: setup of the operational procedures of the VAMP network consisting in a first approach of 3 Expertise Centres and 10 member companies from 4 countries. It is planned to introduce in this phase an additional ExC from the East European countries and 3 user projects from there.
- Phase 2: execution and monitoring of the user projects, identification of Best Practice results and methodologies. 10 projects with different application areas and technologies used either for voice recognition/processing, but also voice synthesis and output will clearly demonstrate the functional and commercial benefits when introducing these innovative microelectronics technologies
- Phase 3: This phase contains the gathering of all best practice data, economic information and user experiences as well as the production of dissemination and training material (brochure, project flyers, website), and the definition of target audience and companies
-Phase 4: Individual training activities for re-use at regional level to stimulate the Take-up of VAMP technologies and techniques into the wider market

All these activities will be performed in close co-operation between the partners. In the setup phase, a steering board consisting of representatives of the three ExCs will be founded to co-ordinate the work, to define strategies and to ensure dissemination of Best Practice of high quality at an international level. This consortium will also perform the operational management including the contacts to EC.

Milestones:
M4: All procedures defined and operational
M14: Target audience and contents of dissemination activity defined
M12-M28: User projects finished
M15-M30: Dissemination and training activities
M29: Conclusions of the project, strategy and framework for future co-operation established
M30: Project end (Final Review)
