Innovative barge trains (inbat) for effective transport on inland shallow waters

Objective

INBAT brings a technological step forward in designing, producing and operating inland water ships. Safe, environmentally friendly and efficient ships will enable more transport on smaller or seasonally not navigable inland waterways. INBAT will enable cost effective transport on ships with draughts down to 0.60 m. This will be made possible by the combination of light weight construction methods, an innovative barge train concept and by improved propulsive systems. Innovative design and production will reduce construction cost and improve payload. Cost/benefit calculations will identify where INBAT can be operated, substituting road transport and reducing impact to the environment. As employment in specialised industry is strengthened, INBAT contributes to sustainable growth.
