Development of a methodology and of a computer tool for source term estimation in case of nuclear emergency in a light water reactor (astrid)

Objective

In case of emergency in a nuclear power plant, it is necessary to quickly and efficiently protect the neighbouring population and the environment. Therefore, the accident should be monitored from the moment it is detected and the releases and consequences associated to its further development should be evaluated. The current project aims to define a methodology for expertise of the installation status and of its possible development and develop a support tool for evaluating the real and/or potential source term in case of accident occurring in a light water reactor. The system, further on referred to as the ASTRID system, will be based on experience gained in the field of nuclear emergencies and take into account the potential end-users requirements. It will be applicable in all European countries. Based on plant data available during an accident, it will used until sufficient measurements become available in the environment.
