Objective

FeCrAl steels are commonly used in a large variety of industrial and domestic applications in which materials are subjected to high service temperatures. The life time of FeCrAl components and devices is determined by occurrence of breakaway oxidation. Extending the time to breakaway oxidation is of great importance for development of longer living consumer products and for the environmentally benign energy conversion technologies . Therefore, the present project aims at the development of a number of new surface treatment methods to extend the life of FeCrAl steel, adapted to the geometrical features of different , common component types. Additionally , mathematical models will be developed to predict the durability of the new surface treated materials in a number of typical service environments (air, combustion and exhaust gas ) .
