Developing a european facility to re-use seismic data

Objective

This proposal is to further develop the research infrastructure that scan-archives EU marine seismic reflection paper records. It is a response to end user driven requests for data to be digitised and re-used in seismic processing systems. These irreplaceable data are required by the scientific community for integration with modern environmental surveys. It also avoids re-acquisition costs. The facility has developed this technology because commercial solutions are too expensive. The facility' s www thumbnail index of 7500 seismic images would cost ~20M Euros to re-survey. This facility will provide access to distributed processing facilities, user training and small business initiatives. It will also develop a mobile scanning operation to access further data in new areas to create added value in a unique transnational development.
