Objective

The ACCEPT proposal suggests to evaluate the potential of ammonia as fuel for fuel cells. NH3 offers energy efficiencies at least equal to methanol but on a local level is CO2 free and furthermore, offers zero emission potential. The project has three branches, one for PEMFC+NH3, consisting of 5 WP's; one for SOFC+NH3evaluation (1WP) and one for a paper study of NH3 feasibility for use with fuel cells (3WP's) including supply chain and safety evaluation and a prospective technology and life cycle emission analysis. The output will be the feasibility of NH3 as fuel for the 2 most prominent fuel cell versions. If positive, it will offer benefits like increased energy efficiency and choice, GHG and pollutant reduction (zero emission potential) by offering a cheap reliable source of H2.The consortium assembles resources of 9 partners from 6 countries to fully investigate this interesting alternative bridge fuel.
