Origin and fate of biogenic particle fluxes in the ocean and their interaction with the atmospheric co2 concentration as well as the marine sediment

Objectif

ORFOIS will identify and quantify globally the mechanisms underlying the transformation of bioorganic particles to dissolved substances within the ocean water column in order to predict reliably surface ocean carbon dioxide sources and sinks . Community models for particle dynamics and early digenesis will be provided. In two different Biogeochemical Ocean General Circulation Models(BOGCMS) these modules will be implemented in order to achieve a closed marine carbon and nitrogen budget. The Begums will be applied to reindustrialise as wells global warming conditions, and to carbon sequestration scenarios. Comprehensive data bases of observations (carbon dioxide partial pressure, carbon and nutrient cycles ) will be compiled, which provide the foundation for the development of the community models and the verification of results. The socio-economic impact of the modelling approach will be quantified.
