Civil aircraft for regular investigation of the atmosphere based on an instrument container

Objective

CAMAACC 2002 realizes intensive atmospheric research with a Boeing 767 and AIRBUSA330 passenger aircraft using a large equipment container now operated by European countries (8 partners). 720 flight hours to the tropics yield profiles of 60 trace gases and 10 physical / chemical aerosol properties : major greenhouse gases (e.g. CO2, CH4, N20), chemically active species (CO, 03, hydrocarbons), 03 depletes (CFCs, HCFCs), other halocarbons (CH3Cl, CHB3 etc), submicronparticles, and aerosol elemental composition. Meteorological support allows toresearch transport (deep convection, stratosphere-troposphere exchange ). Biogenicand anthropogenic emissions, 03 chemistry, inter-annual changes are studied.Satellite data are validated (SCIAMACHY, MOPITT etc) and a systematic aerosolclimatology is provided. An extensive database is provided and extensive modelling(various 3D models) is used for quantitative understanding of various processes.
