Integrated urban governance for the city of tomorrow (thematic network)

Objective

INTERACT aims to respond to the implementation of urban comprehensive strategic planning. Many European cities have already launched strategic processes, seeking to include such varied and complex aims as economic growth, social integration, quality of life and respect for the environment. Cities are now confronted with the difficult task of implementing a plan made of complex, multi-sectorial actions that need to mobilise lots of partners). Its success depends on the improvement of integrated governance, i. e on the development of mechanisms for understanding, mechanisms for acting and mechanisms for co-ordinating. INTERACT aims to produce a new urban integrated management methodology (Guidebook and CD-ROM), really adapted to city constraints and to the need of co-operation with other stakeholders, through a networking synergy around sustainable development strategies. INTERACT work plan is organised around local pools and a European network, that are connected in the methodology through a dissemination process work meetings and seminars. INTERACT also consists in: 1. Two officer exchange programmes in INTERACT cities 2. A new management training course (a role-playing game) for European cities
