Simulation tool for dynamic flow analysis in foam filters

Objectif

The development of foam material for low pressure drop and high separation/regeneration efficiency for Diesel particulate filters by trial and error has not lead to a real understanding about the physical and chemical phenomena occurring in the foam matrix and how they interact with each other. Therefore the project aim is to develop and apply an experimentally validated simulation tool to permit accurate characterisation of foam materials and to enable the systematic optimisation of high separation efficiency cellular Structures. The expected results are to show the potential of new Diesel exhaust gas after treatment technology based on metallic and ceramic foam filters in order to reach the target emission levels, The consortium consists of 4 partners from 4 European countries with long term expertise in research and development of exhaust gas after treatment devices and low emission engines.
