Polyolefins: improved property control and reactor operability

Objective

POLYPROP deals with the relationship between catalysis, reactor operation and materials properties. This includes the study of: polyolefin material properties, improved reactor operation (reduce costs, waste...) manipulation of the catalyst & catalyst support to control properties, how to use advanced metallocenes, and how to use phase changes in the reactor to control temperature. In addition, tools (micro reactors, miniplants, stop flow reactors) will be developed to evaluate changes taking place in the reactor, to provide data and test the models that are to be built. 5 Scientific Work packages have been defined to look at the role of particle morphology; optimisation of polymer properties; quantification of thermodynamic effects; role of phase changes during polymerisation; improvement of process operability.
