The technology and applications of satellite navigation

Objective

Applications are invited from Doctoral students wishing to conduct part of their study at the IESSG. The IESSG has been selected as a prestigious Marie Curie training site, funded by the European Commission. The travel and maintenance costs of the visiting Fellows will be paid by the European Commission, for a period between three months and one year. Candidates should already be registered for a PhD in a subject related to the applications and/or technology of Global Navigation Satellite Systems. Visiting fellows are offered the opportunity to: - study at a world-renowned research institute, with many international collaborative links, - to further their specific research objectives under the supervision of prominent, established researchers in satellite navigation, - to broaden their knowledge of the applications, through exposure to the IESSG's wide-ranging international research portfolio. Training will be provided in the technology of GNSS, including the satellite systems, three receiving equipment, and the applications of the technology. Researchers are invited to study the design and development of the next generation of GNSS (Galileo), as well as the uses and applications of GNSS in areas related to transport. GIS and Earth sciences. It is expected that researchers will focus on either a particular application of GNSS, or the design and development of the system, depending on their interests, and will benefit from interaction with the wide range of on-going studies. The IESSG has a variety of facilities and tools to enhance the training offered to the Fellows, including a range of in-house software tools for designing and testing GNSS architectures, and processing and analyzing data, well-equipped laboratories, with GPS and GLONASS receivers, INS and photogrammetric equipment . In addition, the IESSG runs several Masters courses . Individual one-week modules from these courses will be offered to visiting Fellows.
