Very efficient large aircraft

Objetivo

Only new unconventional civil transport aircraft configurations promise a considerable progress in productivity even and in particular under future economic demands and challenging ecological constraints. Studies carried out on wing/body lifting or flying wing configurations during the last decades have shown a huge potential for these unconventional configurations. Their development potential for a reduction in fuel consumption is as considerable as up to 30% referring to current modern aircraft. Common tools and data bases for aerodynamic, weight, stability and control will be developed. In addition, research work will concentrate on configurational showstoppers like operational aspects or passenger comfort in big windowless moving cabins. When the tools are at hand and possible constraints and solutions in the integration research fields are clearly identified, the potential of the flying wing configurations will be revalidated in the already existing aircraft design environment.
