Objectif International and national organisations and NGOs have already invested more than 25 years in programs to improve the growth and development of children . Success varies considerably and there is little exchange of experience and results. At the same time there are controversies about the appropriateness of certain intervene- tins such as 'growth monitoring' or the role of sectors and organisations in ac- trinities aimed at improving child health. The aim of this international colloquium is to provide an up-to-date overview of the problems faced with growth and dive- lament of Under Fives' and to propose alternative strategies. Field workers, lea- ding experts, health professionals and scientists from north and south will be brought together to exchange experiences and present state of the art syntheses. Invited participants will come from different backgrounds, so that the consider- tins on child needs and activities are not solely from a medical perspective.
