Objective

'Environmentally Friendly and Economical Gelcasting Using Natural Gelformers' The Flemish Institute for Technological Research (Vito) implements client-driven research projects and develops innovative products and processes. The multidisciplinary skills and technological know-how of a 440 persons strong R&D-community make this organization a crossroads of technology, where state-of-the-art technologies are successfully blended into practical applications. Specific problems are addressed in Vito's 8 so-called 'centres of expertise' dealing with energy consumption in processes, new materials and environmental protection and innovation. One of the 'centres of expertise' is the Materials Technology Centre, with own facilities for analysis and characterization, where a crew of 15 researchers are involved with processing and application of ceramics materials, with focus on colloidal shaping techniques. For enhancing its competence in the field of shaping of ceramics by colloidal near net shaping techniques, more specifically the application of bio-polymers for ' eco-ge casting' of ceramic components, Vito is looking for a , Doctor (M/F) in Biochemistry, Food Technology or Food Chemistry with a background and/or experience in the I field of bio-polymers for a 2-years fellowship. The research fellow is expected to lead work on chemical or physical modifications of biopolymers to enhance the shaping capabilities and the compatibility with the nature of ceramic slurries. He will report his results in written and will give seminars on a regular basis. A good knowledge of English or French is required, and the willingness to acquire a basic knowledge of Dutch during your stay is a plus.
