Magnetic quantum oscillations in layered organic superconductors

Obiettivo

The project is intended to an extensive both theoretical and experimental study of the novel phenomena observed in the (ET)-based organic compounds in magnetic field. These phenomena are from the different parts of the condensed matter physics but all they are collected in the very promising layered organic compounds.
The major objective of the project is to perform a detailed theoretical and experimental investigation of the unconventional effects observed in magneto-quantum oscillations experiments on layered organic metals and superconductors from the BEDT-TTF (ET) -based family and to explain the numerous deviations from the standard 3D Lifshitz and Kosevich theory.

This includes:
(i) To develop a quantitative theory of the Shubnikov - de Haas (SdH) and de Haas - van Alphen (dHvA) phenomena in quasi-2D organic metals;
(ii) To investigate the magnetic breakdown effects;
(iii) To study other effects of the specific topology of the Fermi surface and the strong anisotropy of the ET-compounds on the magnetic quantum oscillations.

The second goal of the Project is theoretical and experimental studies of unique superconducting phases which are expected to exist in the ET-based quasi-2D compounds in a magnetic field. Among them are: a non-uniform superconducting Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) phase and a high magnetic field superconducting phase (e.g. a so-called "reentrant superconducting phase") which survives above the upper critical field Hc2. This phenomenon exists only in the layered organic metal and may have important applications in future.
The third significant phenomenon to be studied within the Project is the spin or charge density waves. The ET-based organic compounds are the natural materials where these effects are very pronounced. Their properties as well as the interplay with magnetic quantum oscillations are planned to be studied.
On each of the stated above problems a detailed comparison of the theoretical and the experimental results is expected. Such cooperation leads to the more profound understanding and description of the novel phenomena in the ET- organic metals and superconductors and ensures the success of the project.
