Cosmic rays in large scale random magnetic fields and media with quasiperiodically varied conditions of propagation

Cel

The many years continuous observational data of Cosmic Ray world net stations and large group of interplanetary devices create a possibility to deepen the knowledge about the CR quasiperiodic variations and the physical processes existed in the Earth surrounding space.

The major objective of the present project is the development of a constituent theory of CR propagation in the large-scale random magnetic fields relevant to the various observational conditions in the interplanetary space. Particularly: the CR scintillations, recurrent and annual variations of CR intensity and anisotropy, Forbush-decreases and anomalous diurnal variations of CR will be studied.

The research activity will include the study of the 27-day oscillations which are accompanied by the recurrent FDs for different epochs of solar activity. The energy spectra of 27-day and recurrent FDs for different epochs of SA will be determined using two methods. The methodology of CR annual variation investigations will be based on the fact that Earth while moving in the ecliptic plane is shifted in the meridional direction relative to the helioequator plane and reaches -7 degrees of South latitude in March and +7 degrees of North latitude in September. The annual variations of CR intensity will be investigated using the data of large set of stations with different cut-off thresholds. Diurnal variations of neutron and mezon components of CR will be studied with respect to the Earth passing through the neutral layer of IMF. The consistent calculation of the transversal diffusion coefficient based on the drift kinetic equation with Fokker-Plank collision integral responsible for CR scattering on the small-scale magnetic field inhomogeneities will be carried out
The expected results will provide new and useful knowledge about the Cosmic Ray propagation in large-scale random magnetic fields and media under quasiperiodically varied conditions; will give premises to reveal the mechanism of CR annual and recurrent variations, to determine the energy spectra parameters of FD CR intensity for different SA epochs, to develop the method of power spectra determination of large-scale interplanetary magnetic fields. The outcome of these research activities will be important and may be used for planning future observations and investigations.
