Experimental and theoretical study of molecular dynamics in a strong laser field

Obiettivo

A Joint Research Project between three INTAS teams and three NIS teams (two Russian and one Moldavian) is proposed. The central objective of the project is the investigation of some of the phenomena concerning different aspects of the behaviour of simple molecules under the strong laser field radiation. Coulomb explosion, multielectron ionisation, dynamics of the field-induced alignment, strong-field stabilization, and generation of high-order harmonics of a laser field are planned to be studied both experimentally and theoretically. The planned experiments will be performed using the Saclay Centre "femtosecond" facilities based on Titanium-Sapphire laser systems. Dynamics of ionization will be analysed with the help of time-of-flight ion and electron spectrometry techniques in association with powerful correlations techniques, which are necessary to identify the many-particle fragmentation channels of the system. New nonperturbative approaches will be developed to analyse molecular dynamics in strong fields. These approaches will consist of combination of model calculations and exact numerical solution of the non-stationary Schrödinger equation. The obtained knowledge of the molecular dynamics will be used, in particular, for optimisation of the conditions of high-order harmonic generation and, therefore, for suggestions of new scenarios of coherent X ray radiation generation.
