Objective Thickness reduction of strand with liquid core is a technology to control cast thickness and improve the internal quality of continuously cast slabs. The objective of this project is to investigate criteria for improved selection of soft reduction arrangements. The planned research includes the effects of machine parameters on strand quality, deformation mechanics during compression and the formation of centreline segregation. Both numerical modelling and measurements on casting machines will be performed.
