Objectif The project investigates the precipitation of nitrides and carbides at the early stages of solidification cooling. The physical properties and the microstructures of steels are controlled by precipitate particles. Effects of casting and cooling conditions on their formation will be studied through laboratory investigations and on-plant measurements will be carried out. Advanced mathematical models will be developed. A set of relevant steels will be selected covering both conventional casting and new strip casting techniques.
