Objective The overall objective of this research project is to develop real-time prediction of delta-ferrite content in continuous casting in order to prevent surface and internal cracking of the stainless steel slab. The main approach is to compare different mathematical models with direct measurements of residual ferrite distribution in slab sampling and with laboratory quenching tests of the same material. The results will also be of use in preventing cracking during hot rolling.
