Obiettivo In operating electric arc furnaces, high productivity generally has the highest priority besides low consumption of electric and fossil energy as well as electrode graphite. The fossil energy input has been considerably increased in recent years, in order to reduce the electric energy consumption and to raise the productivity by shortening the power-on, time. For AC furnaces is has been shown that the electric energy consumption is minimal at an operating point below the electric power maximum. Similar relation has been observed at a DC furnace. The aims of the project are to improve the knowledge about the influences of energy consumption and productivity of electric arc furnaces and to achieve the optimum between these key variables by an adequate control of electric power input. The investigations will be performed on single and double shell furnaces, single and double shaft furnaces and AC and DC furnaces.
