Objective The aim of this project is to design, build and test novel cooling equipment based on recent research work, to be installed immediately behind the last stand of a hot strip mill to provide very fast and controllable cooling of the exiting strip. Optimized cooling patterns will be defined for the differing steel grades and products rolled in a modern hot strip mill. The unit will be designed so that 1.5 to 15 mm strip can be handled without any loss of speed or material, and with all the strip achieving the required mechanical properties.
