University Start up of International Entrepreneurs

Objectif

The USINE project aims to promote high technology spin-offs from universities by creating a new facility as a link between universities and incubators/science parks to support academics with technology-based business ideas before they establish their own companies.
Adapting the model established in 1997 at the University of Bielefeld (Germany), the project will establish so-called 'pre-incubators' in the Ecole Polytechnique in Palaiseau near Paris and the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia. Under the protection and insurance cover of the pre-incubator academics can sell their products to test the market potential prior to the creation of an own company. The pre-incubator facility furthermore provides assistance and key knowledge on how to run a company and helps academics formulate business development plans. The Israeli partner Dimotech will train the pre-incubator management staff (concept train the trainer) so that the pre-incubator can offer courses on how to access and take advantage of international markets.
Further tools developed in the run of the project are a strategic database and networking tool developed by Dimotech and an application to establish and assess business plans.

Results expected:
- Promotion of high technology spin-offs from Universities;
- Taking advantage of the internal European market and international markets;
- Promotion of co-operation between European Universities and strategic partners;
- Elaboration and dissemination of a "best practice spin-off scheme from universities" transferable to any region inside and outside of Europe.
Products resulting:
- Networking tool and strategic database;
- Business plan software tool.
