The EU has recently stressed the importance of policies aimed at reducing barriers to mobility across member states in the EU. This Accompanying Measure combines state-of-the art surveys in six EU member states with a feasibility study in preparation for a major comparative research project on barriers to cross-border commuting. It will enable an existing network of researchers to identify, collect and discuss information about factors which inhibit cross-border commuting in the EU as perceived by European citizens . This will be achieved thorough three workshops, surveys of recent research in the area, and pilot interviews in four border regions. The Measure will be of relevance to policy makers and organisations (e.g. EURES). The dissemination includes a website, the participation of experts and policy makers in the workshops and the preparation of publications.
