CONCERTED ACTION ON RAPID PROTOTYPING (DESKTOP MANUFACTURING, LAYER MANUFACTURING TECHNIQUE, MATERIAL INCRESS MANUFACTURING)

Ziel

A total of 19 R&D projects were carried out. In most of these projects were established a group comprising from 5 to 7 partners, -each contributing to the work according to their specific needs, data, know-how, equipment, etc.
WA1+2 Creative Design and Product Development
1.1 Integration of RPT in Product Development
1.2 Early Validation of Mathematical Modeling
1.3 Ultra Rapid Prototyping
1.4 RPT Selection Tools
1.5 RP Survey

WA3 Tooling
3.1 Investment Casting
3.2 Rapcast
3.4 EDM electrodes
3.5 Toolcast
3.6 Direct-tool

WA4 CAD and Software
4.1 Test of Support Generating Software
4.2 Test of new Medical Software
4.3 Definition of new Data Exchange Formats
4.4 Implementation of Electronic Book on RPT using WAN

Test of software has been made as planned, and exploitation is taking place through sale of the new versions.
WA5 Medical Applications.
5.1 Drilling Device Dental Plate
5.2 Cardiovascular System/Pump
5.3 Ergonomically Designed Surgical Prototype
5.4 Soft Tissue Applications
5.5 Information Data Base on Various Medical Application

Activities in task 5 have led to the fact that hospitals at Tübingen, Ulm, Groningen, and Aarhus are now active in this area. In the future, Universities at Liverpool and Leeds will also work with medical applications on their RPT-equipment.
The EARP newsletter transferred know-how to industry and especially to SMEs and reached a circulation far beyond EARP partners.
The Concerted Action is aimed at interaction and integration of activities within BRITE/EURAM projects, other EEC programmes, Nordic R & D programmes and national programmes in the field of Rapid Prototyping Techniques (RPT). RPT is an entirely new and fast growing technology. It will be a strategic technology in creative design and product and production development. By applying RPT in the right way the time to market can be reduced with 50%. Today time to market is an important competition parameter to industry. The Concerted Action will provide a forum for information exchange, cooperation and setting up new R & D areas so that European industry can benefit more rapidity from this technology.
