Optimisation and design of biomass combustion systems (OPTICOMB)

Objetivo

The major problems regarding biomass combustion are still the NOx and CO emissions, especially when the fuel becomes more diverse (high peaks during transients). A good anticipation on fuel changing will increase the efficiency.
Due to fuel changing, non-linearities and multi variability classical control strategies are not effective. In order to improve the control system, advanced control technologies based upon process models are needed. These will be developed and tested. Design of biomass furnaces has to be based not only upon static information but also on dynamic information. Static information (CFD, including fuel layer model and NOx modules, grate) will be used together with dynamic information (stochastic of disturbances, dynamic models and control concepts) in order to design new furnaces.
