Objective BFI will study flow conditions in pusher-type and walking-beam reheating furnaces with different burner positions, in order to improve and optimise heat exchange, taking into consideration the different influencing factors (upper and lower zone, different burner types). The aim is to gain a better understanding of the phenomena involved with a view to acting on them and ultimately making fuel savings. The work programme provides for a large number of specific measurements to be carried out in the types of furnace selected and tests conducted in a pusher-type and a walking-beam furnace over a long enough period for the results to be representative. An installation using mathematical models will be set up and tested.
