Objectif Users of hot-rolled flat products are demanding products with highly uniform service properties over the length and breadth of the sheet and very uniform microstructures for high impact strength. The aim of the research is to propose ways and means of improving uniformity through: - a macroscopic-scale study to determine and quantify the effects of thermal irregularities during rolling on the longitudinal and transverse properties; - a microscopic-scale study to quantify more accurately the effect of microstructural irregularities on the properties of the finished product. The following will be used in the study: - mathematical models for forecasting thermal and structural changes; - a hot torsion-testing machine; - an experimental rolling mill.
