Location-based mobile phones applications for independent living of disabled and elderly citizens

Objetivo

The project LOCOMOTION is going to investigate, develop, and test an innovative location service for elderly and disabled citizens. The aim is to provide these persons with special needs as well as their formal and informal carers with relevant information according to the geographical position of the persons. Based on an innovative technology the users will be equipped with available cellular devices, such as mobile phones or trackers. The services include on demand information of the area, giving directions, proximity information, and security zone watching and tracking, depending on the special needs of the individual user. All these services are targeted at the final aim, which is to increase the mobility of the users and to create an environment for independent living.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Work is divided into supportive/horizontal and technical/scientific work packages (WP). The horizontal WPs include Management, Dissemination & Exploitation and Assessment & Evaluation, and Socio-Economic Impact Research. A well-structured management will coordinate the whole work, dissemination and exploitation tasks will guarantee a broad awareness and commercialisation possibilities for the tool and the assessment and evaluation will take care of a qualitatively high performance of all tasks as well as the evaluation of the tool according to an established methodology as well as an iterative ethical assessment. The socio-economic impact research will evaluate from a socio-technical perspective the cost-benefits and wider social and public service dimensions of the innovation, provide a real time evaluation and map the project with existing care service systems.
Technical work is divided into three main WPs:
- Location service implementation
- GMLC (Gateway Mobile Location Centre) and Middleware implementation
- Application service implementation. This technical work is all based on the user requirements and correlated with the other WPs.
