Obiettivo Forced non-stationary catalytic reactors and combustors are promising technologies both in the process industry and in environmental applications. Our research is focused on the analysis of the behavior of such systems through numerical simulation, in order to select the optimal configuration of the reactor and of the dynamic operation. Therefore the applicants should have some expertise in the field of chemical reactor engineering and numerical simulation. Moreover, since a part of the work is devoted to the study of effective control strategies, applicants with some skills in advanced process control are sought as well. The research group has been working in the field of chemical reactor engineering for many years and in the field of simulation of non-stationary catalytic burners since 1995; the research group has recently been involved in a European project (ENV-CT97-0599) with the University of Oviedo and of Louvain concerning the design and construction of a non-stationary catalytic burner (pilot plant scale) for the abatement of the gaseous pollutants of an iron-making process catalytic abatement of pollutants from coke oven in forced unsteady-state reactors. The selected applicants will have the opportunity to attend the courses of the Italian School of Doctorate in Chemical Engineering (on subjects as "Chemical Reactor Engineering", "Thermodynamics", "Applied Mathematics"...). Besides they will take advantage of the co-operation we have with the previous cited European teams, having access to experimental methods and data, thus integrating the mostly simulation-based expertise they will gain during their stay in Torino.
