Obiettivo The severity of the corrosion conditions to which motor-vehicle bodies are subjected is leading to the ever-increasing use of coated products. These coatings are obtained by dipping (the galvanizing, Galfan and Aluzinc processes) or electro deposition (Zn, ZnNi, ZnFe and Zincrox). Although it has been established that pre-deformation is unimportant for the formation of the phosphate layers in the case of bare sheets, it may well not be so for coated products as a result of differences in intrinsic ductility. The aim of this research is to study the influence of different types of deformation, namely expansion and contraction, in the case of deformation without contact with the tool. In order to examine the influence of tool contact with the deformed surface, the aim is to use a special tool incorporation a lining: this tool was developed earlier in the context of a research project aimed at studying the problem of galling during pressing.
