Development of multifunction prototype electrolyte cell for the multilayer coating of flat rolled products

Objective

Automobile companies have established targets for the life of external steel parts of ten and five years for perforation corrosion and cosmetic corrosion respectively. As a consequence, this has stimulated demand for one-side coated steel to overcome perforation corrosion and for two-side coated sheet-to avoid cosmetic corrosion, which are generally produced by an electrolytic coating process. A vertical cell capable of unidirectional zinc coatings will, it is believed, present a satisfactory solution to the problem because of the low investment and manufacturing costs compared with other coated products. The aim of project is therefore to develop a vertical cell suitable for: a) high speed of electrodeposition (high current density); b) produce two-side coated and one-side coated sheet products; c) produce mono-multilayer coatings of controlled composition.
