Objective Automobile companies have established targets for the life of external steel parts of ten and five years for perforation corrosion and cosmetic corrosion respectively. As a consequence, this has stimulated demand for one-side coated steel to overcome perforation corrosion and for two-side coated sheet-to avoid cosmetic corrosion, which are generally produced by an electrolytic coating process. A vertical cell capable of unidirectional zinc coatings will, it is believed, present a satisfactory solution to the problem because of the low investment and manufacturing costs compared with other coated products. The aim of project is therefore to develop a vertical cell suitable for: a) high speed of electrodeposition (high current density); b) produce two-side coated and one-side coated sheet products; c) produce mono-multilayer coatings of controlled composition.
