Objective The aim of the research is to determine the effects of composition on the structure and properties of selected low-carbon, low-alloy, microalloyed steels in the form of forged tests bars after both conventional heat treatments and direct quenching. These steels are of interest to the oil, gas and process plant industries where demanding combinations of properties are required in both forgings and after fabrication by welding. The work will be undertaken in collaboration with United Engineering Steels (Railway and Ring Rolled Products).
