Fracture toughness and fatigue crack growth studies in A515grade steel

Obiettivo

This research is intended to provide a better understanding of the fracture and fatigue behaviour of A515 Grade 70 steel as used in thick plates for pressure vessel fabrication (typically 150 to 200 mm thickness). The work will involve fracture toughness characterization using EPFM parameters (COD and J integral) and studies of fatigue behaviour. The main variables to be analysed in this project will be temperature, material heterogeneity along the plate thickness, degree of pre-straining in the shell prior to the welding, operations, crack orientation and stressing direction in the plate material.
