Obiettivo The packaging steel industry is put more and more under pressure by the application of alternative materials such as plastics and aluminium. The only way to slow down or push back this threat is develop materials and processes that might lead to a lower cost container. One of the methods developed in the recent past in order to reduce the container costs was the production of DWI (Drawn and Wall Ironed) cans for drinks and also for certain foods. The approach described in this proposal aims at can production at lower costs, but has yet to be verified in practice. The investigations will focus on the definition of a working method with its applicable limits which will lead to the production of the concept as well as its further processing. This method uses a new development of the DWI (Drawn and wall Ironed) process.
