Optimising vehicle safety, comfort and handling by intelligent vibration reduction.

Objective

Koni B.V. in Oud-Beijerland, the Netherlands is an important player in the vehicle manufacturing supply industry. With a range of over 2, 500 different types, Koni is one of the larger specialty shock absorber manufacturers in the world. The company specialises in the development and production of shock absorbers for special use: from motorcycles to 100-tonne locomotives and from Formula 1 racing cars to heavy earth moving equipment. This marketing strategy, which distinguishes Koni from other shock absorber manufacturers, has lead to successful co-operation with important manufacturers like Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Maserati, Chrysler and Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR). To maintain its leading position in the selected markets, Koni focuses on quality, safety and environmental issues. It is Koni's philosophy to give students and graduates the opportunity to gain experience in the dynamic field of vehicle dynamics and mechanical engineering. Koni feels that it should take and share responsibility for technical education and employment. By means of multiple fellowships, post-graduates will be given the opportunity to gain research experience within the automotive sector. Koni is looking for two post -graduates who have experience and are interested in complicated vehicle dynamics engineering processes in combination with optimising safety, handling and comfort and accurate simulation and testing processes.
The research area aims at the development of intelligent damping concepts and complex simulation and testing tools for a.o. conditioning damper performance of moving railway carriages. The requirements for the fellowships are :
§ Broadly oriented and interested;
§ Degree in mechanical engineering;
§ Maximum 1 year of industrial experience;
§ Knowledge of and interest in vehicle dynamics;
