Obiettivo The project will develop environmentally friendly emergency lighting systems, incorporating a low energy light source based on light emitting diodes or light emitting polymers. It will also utilise a rechargeable cell to replace the nickel cadmium cells commonly used in exit signs. These two innovations will improve the environmental performance of this large sector of the lighting market, leading to reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and the elimination of cadmium, a toxic pollutant. Other benefits for the user will arise from the longer operational life of the solid-state light source.
