Ultrastructural characterization and physiological aspects of vesicle-associated heterotrimeric g-proteins

Cel

This study will explore the regulation of the transmitter content of secretory vesicles. It is planned to be carried out in collaboration with a group which has long-standing experience in immunocytochemical ultra structural research addressing the biology and pathophysiology of synaptic communication in the CNS. Working in this group, the applicant will learn to use highly sophisticated immuno-electron microscopic techniques. In addition, she will collect experience in the interpretation and quantitative analysis of immunocyto chemical labelling and increase her morphological knowledge. Furthermore, the applicant will also have the possibility to perform also functional studies by a new methodical approach, the FRET technique. Thus, the applicant will extend her spectrum of methods in cellular neurobiology. On the other hand, with her background in the study of mechanisms of transmitter storage and release, the applicant will bring new intellectual aspects into the ongoing research projects of the host group.
